Snake Oil™

Professor Ignatius Brand Snake Oil™ is a very low-odor, oil-based extender and lubricant for diamond compounds used in gemstone faceting.

Snake Oil™ was developed as an alternative to traditional faceting lubricants containing strong-smelling solvents such as Stoddard solvent or deodorized kerosene. It is formulated without those solvents and provides effective lubrication with only a small amount—a few drops are generally all that is needed.

Snake Oil™ is recommended for use with PANDIMONIUM® PAN MONO, PAN PCD, and PAN CUT. It is our recommended oil-based extender for PANDIMONIUM® diamond compounds. When a water-based lubricant is preferred, Snake Fluid™ may also be used.

Snake Oil™ can be used with BATT™, BA5T™, Zinc Plus™, Darkside™, MATRIX™, DIAMAX™, and Lightside™, as well as other suitable metal, ceramic, and composite/polymeric laps.

Using Snake Oil™

Apply Snake Oil™ sparingly. A few drops are generally sufficient to distribute diamond compound and lubricate the lap during use. Additional lubricant can be added as needed.

Snake Oil™ helps reduce friction and heat, helps prevent swarf from adhering to the lap, and makes accumulated diamond compound and swarf easier to remove. It also cleans readily from the gemstone.

Snake Oil™ is compatible with commonly used faceting dop adhesives, including dop wax, epoxy, and cyanoacrylate (CA) adhesives.

For use with PANDIMONIUM® diamond products, see our application and charging videos on Gearloose Lapidary on YouTube. Snake Oil™ is applied in much the same way when charging metal laps. On composite polishing laps, the diamond compound and Snake Oil™ are applied to the lap surface during use. 

Handling

May cause eye irritation. Avoid contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.

As with all faceting lubricants and compounds, use good handling practices and keep the product out of reach of children.
